CUET Shuts For Indefinite Period

The authority of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on Thursday suspended all academic activities for an indefinite period amid continuous demonstrations by the students protesting the death of two fellow students in a road accident.

The authority made the decision at an urgent meeting of the university academic council on Thursday.

The authority also asked the male students to vacate the dormitories by 5:00pm Thursday, and the female students by 9:00pm Friday, said a notice issued by the university’s Acting Registrar Professor Dr Shekh Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

Immediately after the announcement of the decision, agitating students set a bus, they seized after Monday’s accident, on fire on the university campus.

CUET students seized 4-5 buses of Shah Amanat Paribahan after one of the buses collided with a motorbike carrying three fellow students.

The accident killed Shanto Saha and Towfik Hossain, third-year and second-year students of civil engineering department, and critically injured the department’s second-year student Zakaria Himu.
